Biography

Charleen Touchette
is an artist, writer, curator, art critic, educator, and activist. In 1998 she was awarded the Women’s Caucus for Art (WCA) President’s Award for her contributions to the Feminist Art Movement, and her work and expertise on women’s, multicultural, and Native American art since the late 1970s. Touchette founded the Spiderwomen World Arts Network in 1990 and was featured in the University of Colorado at Boulder’s “What follows” video series in 2001.
Touchette has organized and curated exhibits at museums nationwide, including the Queens Museum, Chicago Cultural Center, National Museum of Women in the Arts, New Mexico’s Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, Institute of American Indian Arts, and Santa Fe Art Institute. Her art has been exhibited around the world, from New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art to the United Nations’ Palais de Nations in Geneva and Museo de Arte Comtemporanea in Brazil. Her writing and art have appeared in many books and periodicals and she is the author of ndn art. Touchette lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband and four children. She also teaches yoga.
